Really wonderful Janice! Flamingoes are a joy to watch!
Wow. They way you applied the media makes the piece look very subtractive. At first I thought it was a hand-colored relief print.
I think the composition works well. The stabbing lines at the top move the eye down through the necks of the upper birds then along the neck of the 'rejector' down to his head.
The only moment that doesn't work for me is the black spot just at the lower bird's feet. It seems unconsidered. The black around the face is perfectly considered and makes the unconsidered one stand out.
Wonderful technic, this is really nice.
Wow, this is beautiful, the colours work really well and the glints of light are just wonderful.
Nice one Janice! This painting has a real batik-like quality to it. It would look great on silk.
I love this one, it has got rhythm and the shades of pink are beautiful.
Nice idea. I like looking for that one thing different. :-)
great subject to pick to paint and lov ur color selection beatiful work
Another wonderfully done pastel. I will say that arkonbey's critique is spot on. Try reworking that one area at the bottom. Trudette also had it right about the rhythm of this piece. The background is just right and, along with some of the birds, the angled strokes and elements give this piece a lot of movement.
wish i can paint with pastel. i think it's gorgeous, the stark pink of the flamingos blend nicely with the dark background. i like the concept too, i think it makes the disobedient flamingo a strong character. great work!
Scrumptious colours, beautifully done and I love the collage of feathers, very effective.
Grrreat painting idea and all! Not following the crowd- I actually think the darks where the bird's legs enter the water make sense- it is what I'd expect to see in reality. The little bits of reflection stand out more because of the darks, and make it read as water as well as giving it a bit of movement.
He's listening for the enemy on the warpath. Two leagues away.
very nice movement and sense of color...
Terrific use of texture, I am really enjoying your blog.
Colors and textures are unique!
Your art always encoraged and inspire me!
Bellissimo.
Cata.
Very beautiful!
I love the colors and the overall idea. It reminds me a bit of those works done with ink and pastels. The ones you layer different colors on paper, then cover everything in black ink and work on the image scraping the ink and part of the layers beneath... don't know if this makes sense... :)
Anyway it is always a joy to see what you are working on! :))
Yah, a nonconformist! Exuberant!
A beauty! i like the vitality. I expect the flamingo in the foreground to suddenly look up and give me a good long stare. I can't help staring, wow! Perhaps the same flamingo sipping the water is rejecting the others, before they can reject her, maybe.
This is gorgeous! I really love it. Have you thought about writing a children's book about flamingos and illustrate it? It'd be gorgeous and fun.
the water effects is lovely!
