Illustration Friday: 2 of 2: Signs: a personal reflective moment

This is my second post for illustration fridays "sign" and its a very personal piece... the other entry is extremely different in feel. So please take a look about my blog

I was in my fathers' garden and came across this wee bird lying so very much at peace. Nature, in this particular instance was kind and had gently put it to rest, on a bed of fragrant rose-petal leaves. I was sad, yet, at the same time awed by the beauty.... and for me... it was a sign... Perspective, is very personal... A lot of folks would think this ugly, gruesome, perhaps too sad...
This bird is precious... for it emphasizes what I have now..."Life"... not... what is lost. It reminded me, to enjoy each and every moment and treasure it.. for it might not last....

And I had to make a picture ... to honor it, the moment, the wee bird and the sign.

Wow. That is nicely done. You did catch the mood you described. It is well-observed and you placed it in a great composition.

what medium? What size is the original?

Beautifully realized Janice, and a nice spin on mortality. I very much enjoy your pastels.

You mention reverse image transfers in your previous posting. I vaguely remember a method where you soak a magazine page with lighter fluid, then lay the page image side down, cover with wax paper, rub with burnisher (or pencil), lift the wax paper and magazine page, and presto, reverse image transfer. This should be done in a well ventilated area, away from any flame source. There may be other environmentally safer methods than this one, so it may be worth researching a bit further.
Cheers,
Richard.

How beautiful and quite touching. I used to wonder where birds go to die because we really don't see them strewn about, do we? This painting shows the beauty in passing, as well as a life lived. Thank you for sharing and for being so compassionate.

Beautiful work of art, very poignant. I'm watching a Green Finch nest at the moment, with chicks that just hatched yesterday,
I hope nature is kinder to them.
I'm blogging about them,if you're interested visit me at www.janies-rainy-day.blogspot.com and look up lable Janie Goes Wild.

A terrific painting, Jan. As always, I believe, when we have a story to go with a piece of our artwork, the process takes on more meaning. Sometimes, as in this instance, infinitely more.
Other times, the story comes after. That, too, increases meaning, even if it arrives from that strange place called "value added". Even so, it's a good thing to have one, the other or both.
