Illustration Friday: Theory: Serenity with an edgier addition

30x36 Acrylic
I have a "theory" that, if something isn't right.. you wait... then you work on it some more. This piece has taken ages of drafting and redrafting. I submitted it a couple of weeks ago... then took it>> back to the painting board. It was better but still wasn't right.

"Events in our lives happen in a sequence in time, but in their significance to ourselves they find their own order the continuous thread of revelation." Eudora Welty

Wow, that certainly makes the painting for me... it creates an interesting tension & raises so many questions... is the viewer looking into her own past? Is she an anxious mom wishing she could always watch over her child? Really intriguing.

Both are beautiful and the new version is way intriguing and unique!

It opens a lot of possibilities. I think a writer would have a field day. I love the whole concept and that dog is so precious.

Very super cool! When glancing at the small view, my first thought was sort of creepy, that it was some voyeuristic type of thing. But the big view is much more pleasant! Great idea.

This is wonderful. I like your new theory.

There are parts of both that I like but I'm still trying to decide which I like better.

wow! i like this new thinking! edgier, yeah...but a risk worth taking as we get so much MORE from the top one. a relationship, tension, humor...

i mean, your sweeter, more composed and gentler version is lovely, but it really SINGS when you add the new element. i really like it, j! :)

Curious Art... thankyou.. thats exactly what I was striving for.

Rui Sousa thankyou for your comments

Valgalart I appreciate the feedback.. this darn pic has been quite a stretch for me for one reason or another..

Ces.. NOw Im thinking I should write a story for it.. Great idea.... I had lots of &$$&^&%84 kinds of thoughts while executing it... but I feel the peace... (grin)

Digital Scott... YOU made me consider that aspect when I went back to retouch, sometimes the fine slip of a paintbrush can change an expression or meaning!

Fourbourne.... (Im smiling).... cause my partner is just wishing it would go away and Id move on to something else. Im glad I persisted! and actually so is he.

Mick... I understand the feeling... and still wonder ... but you know the world.... risk taking is how we learn and grow.. :)

Bron... I thankyou for your feedback... I will be over to see your latest.. soon!

ms. froggie... you are a peach.... and your eloquence made my day... thankyou

emila.... I did too...

The revised one reminds me of trompe l'oeil! This could be on a wall of that little girl's room. Really nice Janice!

Very interesting but I too think both are great. Thanks for your comments also.

i dont like like it. it takes all the attention off the lil girl on the bench and focuses it on the face in the triangle. maybe if it was more faded into the background it might work for me but now like i said it overwhelms that picture to the point that it is the 1st thing and only thing i notice. maybe a nice sunset or something might work to fill in the space better since it seems like the ocean to me.... but what do i know?

I like the bottom one better. The simpler the better. But it's just my opinion.
