Extremes: Evolving Revolving Agriculture

It may be pushing it to enter this as an Extreme Entry... but its what Ive been doing this week... And it is interesting how Agriculture has evolved from its simplistic roots, to abuse, then to the technologically savy and environmental awareness of todays world. Extremes.... yeah.. maybe it does fit!

Yes, it is very interesting that "new and fabulous" innovations like DDT, didn't turn out all that fabulous!
Great illustration - I love the calf and how you break the border!

I think everyone has made a good observation about this piece. For me, it seems as though the progression of our illustrated 4-H Club going from common knowledge to written knowledge to electronic knowledge is completely superceded by the calf. Knowing, instinctively, to just go for the corn! :D

The calf and the corn, they will always be, but the technology will keep changing. Wonderful idea, and I love the little calf.

True Janice. This is an excellent and thought provoking take on the subject. I like how the calf looks to be walking off the picture plane too! Anyhow, I finally found your blog. For some reason I can't get to it at home, on my Mac, yet here at work, on the PC, it's no problem.

Another beautifully drawn piece! I should have my husband comment on the message. He's an editor for a produce publication which is all about agriculture! The times, they are a changin' .

Janice, this is so true. The old world way of farming is just about a distant memory. Economics is the driving force. At least modern farming keeps the land open, verdant and productive. The sad thing is that more and more farmers cannot make it financially lucrative or the children choose professions away from the land so farms are sold and converted to subdivisions or shopping malls.
